Ally’s Thoughts: Aleph by Paulo Coelho

Hi everyone! How is your day? I hope you guys have a great day!

I would like to thanks Singledust for this amazing book! I visited her last month to let her borrow one of my book but instead, she gave me this book as a gift. Again, thank you!

As usual, when it comes to Ally’s Thoughts, it is not a review but more of a thought. How I feel about books or movies. Usually there would be a certain theme or issue that i want to share my thoughts with.

From Goodreads

Facing a grave crisis of faith, and seeking a path of spiritual renewal and growth, Paulo decides to start over: to travel, to experiment, to reconnect with people and the world. On this journey he will again meet Hilal – the woman he loved 500 years before – an encounter that will initiate a mystical voyage in search of himself.

So, what I want to talk about?

How much do we know about spirituality? By Oxford definition it is the quality of being concerned with the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things.

I am a person who believes in spirituality. To me, spirituality is a base that will define the qualities in you. When you have a high spiritual level, you will feel more connected and understand better about the things you believe in. Be it in religion or self discovery level.

In this book, it touches spirituality in various angles such as in self experience, Sufism and different beliefs.

Have you ever think how are you doing in spiritual level? Do you have low spiritual level? Or perhaps high?

I am not sure about myself but I do have spiritual conscious. One for example is that I realized there are bigger things in life than just the things in front of you. To realized that is just a step in a spiritual journey.

What kind of things bigger than the things in front of you?

The first thing would be ourselves. What kind of qualities do we have. Are we being good or bad towards ourselves? How do we perceived life? Are we doing the right things?

If to realize is a step in a spiritual journey, where is the destination? Again, depending on your belief. If you belief in religion, perhaps the journey will take you closer to your Maker. If  you belief in self discovery, perhaps you want to be someone better. I believed that during this journey, you will experience different things.

I am in this journey. During my journey, I experienced a lot. From the feel of calmness to the point of self destruction. Some are straightforward but some are the things you can’t even explain logically. The only best possible answer would be coincidence but I don’t believe in coincidence. My journey made me learn that there are no coincidence, everything happened for a reason and it is totally up to me to find the reason or not.

Like the book for example, the journey of Paulo, Hilal and Yao took them to different destination but they embarked the same journey. I’m not sharing more than that because if you are interested, you need to read it for yourself.

You can find yourself doing the things you like to define you but you need to be in touch with your spirit to know who you really are.

Also, this book actually have its official song!

  1. i am so glad you liked the book and yes Coelho does that to us, makes us aware of the most basic instinct our humanity needs to have to be real. I like that you approached spirituality with such gentleness and mindfulness. I hope you will read more of his books, the Alchemist of course my all time favourite, he teaches us we are a force stronger than nature. So so happy the books brought such depth to your life and you translate that so amazingly well in your analysis!
